School Overview

Kickemuit Middle School embraces a community of students from the adjacent towns of Bristol and Warren, along the eastern shore of beautiful Narragansett Bay. KMS is a regional middle school with a student population numbering approximately 650 students. The school is located in suburban Warren, Rhode Island, on the Kickemuit River, from which the school takes its name and serves students from the communities of Bristol and Warren.

Bristol and Warren regionalized their separate school districts in 1993 to better serve the relatively small student populations in both districts. The biggest advantage of regionalization for students in these two towns was the creation of our middle school. Previously, middle grades had been divided between the elementary and high schools. The creation of a regional middle school enabled the school district to better meet the needs of middle grade students. Renovations to the former Warren High School resulted in a spacious, state-of-art middle school which finally joined grades six, seven, and eight from Bristol and Warren under one roof in April of 1998.

The mission and vision of Kickemuit Middle School both encompass provisions for the intellectual, social, emotional, and health needs of all students in a safe, supportive environment. Our course of study provides numerous opportunities for student growth in all areas. We provide all students with a personalized learning environment that promotes deeper, authentic learning experiences. Our focus on student collaboration, creation, problem solving and student voice help students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to learn effectively and live productively as responsible citizens in an increasingly digital world. As educators, our goal is to develop students that are ready for college, career and life in general.
